our story
It all started in Addis Ababa. Two creatives - Eden Kefale, a computer science graduate with a deep love for photography, and Lidiya Mekonnen, an environmental engineering graduate with a strong passion for photography and videography crossed paths while working at a local tour and travel company. From day one, we were inseparable, spending hours after work diving into long conversations about the creative story telling in Ethiopia.
We talked about how much was missing. How stories weren't being told with honesty, artistry, or emotion. We imagined a space where visuals could speak louder than words where photography and film could carry voices often left unheard.
Those conversations sparked a vision, and soon after, we created Merkeb Visuals.
Merkeb isn't just a production company it's our rebellion. A way to take up space, tell the stories we were never given the freedom to share, and invite others to do the same. Through every portrait, every frame, and every film, we speak our truth. We heal. We create meaning. We challenge silence with expression.
Today, Merkeb Visuals stands as a reflection of who we are, two Ethiopian women who believe that storytelling is power. And this is only the beginning.
